When you see a shamrock on a badge you might assume it comes from a team in Ireland, so it may be a surprise that this crest is from a club based in Athens, Greece. A decade after Panathinaikos F.C. was formed in 1908, the club adopted a shamrock for its crest. An ancient spiritual symbol for good luck and balance between the body, the soul and the spirit… But has it proved a success? Well they are one of the most popular and most successful teams in Greece (including 20 Greek Championships), so it’s fair to say that the badge has been a good shout. I can’t help but think though, to guarantee a teensy extra bit of luck, should they add an extra leaf to that clover?
