This week’s Badge of the Week comes from the Ugandan National Football Team, who, following a 1-0 victory over Comoros yesterday, qualified for their first African Cup of Nations since 1978.
Young Standard Liège forward Farouk Miya netted the winner for The Cranes in Kampala, sparking wild celebrations.
The blue stars on the national badge are to represent the five footballing structures of the Ugandan FA which includes the men’s national team, the women’s national team, the brilliantly named Ugandan Sand Cranes (the beach football team), and a host of development squads.
The football in the centre of the badge is encased in a black, yellow and red banner, the national colours. While at the bottom it reads ‘since 1924’, in tribute to the nation’s long and impressive history.
