Some badges emphasise one aspect of a team’s history. Others don’t seem to connect too much at all. But every once in a while you get a badge that tests your eye for detail – and this is the case with the wonderfully detailed badge of Southend United.

The club are known as ‘The Shrimpers’, which is a reference to the  maritime industry in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. The bottom left of the badge also shows a shrimp, next to three wavy blue lines on the bottom right which symbolise the nearby River Thames. The top left corner meanwhile shows three seaxes – a short Saxon sword that features on the flag of the county of Essex.
