Our Badge of the Week this week comes from La Liga’s newest member, Girona FC who won promotion to the top tier for the first time in their history this weekend.

The Catalan club were founded in 1930 in the cafè Norat in La Rambla of Girona and have spent most of their modest history bouncing around the 3rd and 4th tiers of Spanish football. Following three near misses in the past few seasons, this year has finally seen the club achieve promotion following a 0-0 draw with Zaragoza.

From the club’s crest, it is clear the city has a love of stripes ranging from the diagonal red and white to the vertical yellow and red to the wavy red and white (representing the confluence of the rivers Ter, Onyar, Galligants, and Güell) more reminiscent of a retro 90s kit – oh and their shirt of course has vertical red and white stripes.
