This week’s Badge of the Week comes from Danish champions F.C. Copenhagen. Having recently finished the 2016/17 campaign, Byens Hold [the team of the city] have truly established themselves at the apex of Scandinavian football.

The club itself is only in its infant years. Founded in 1992 – through an amalgamation of two existing teams, Kjøbenhavns Boldklub and Boldklubben 1903 – the new ‘super club’ was created to stop the dilution of fandom across Denmark’s capital. They play in the Danish Superliga and first took part a year after its inaugural season.

F.C. Copenhagen and lager manufacturer Carlsberg have a long-standing affiliation with one another as the beer was brewed in the capital for years. The company sponsor the sides kit and indigenous designer Thorvald Bindesbøl, responsible for Carlsberg’s logo, also inspired the design of the club’s crest after working on Boldklubben’s.

The team plays in white, blue and red – reflected in the badge, and are nicknamed Løerne [Lions] which is represented through the club’s mascot and again on the crest. They are currently Denmark’s most successful club side with no fewer than 12 domestic titles, 8 DBU Pokalen’s and 3 Danish Super Cups.
