From the Indian city of Chennai come a footballing team still in their infancy – Chennaiyin FC. Formed in 2014 when the Indian Super League was created, the team adopted a fearsome badge to accompany some intimidating legends of the game who had joined them.
The club was initially managed by World Cup winner and former Zidane-headbutt recipient Marco Materazzi, who also played in their first team for a season. Other marquee signings include former Liverpool legend John Arne Riise, reflecting an ambition for immediate success from the owners (which includes Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni). And it was pretty close to immediate – Chennaiyin FC won the Indian Super League at the second time of asking, beating FC Goa 3-2 in the 2015 final to take the trophy.
