Last year Box To Box Football looked at Real Sociedad and their eye-catching badge. But we just had to come back to San Sebastián this week, because the club recently gave their fans a new badge that was a little special…
The badge was designed in honour of the team’s legendary midfielder, Xabi Prieto, who retired at the end of the season. The ultimate one-club player, Prieto played at Real Sociedad for his entire career. This involved more than 500 competitive games over a period of nearly 20 years.
This eye-catching shield was worn on Saturday, May 12th for Real Sociedad’s final home game of the 2017-18 season against Leganés, giving their loyal fans a chance to watch Xabi Prieto don his No.10 jersey at the Estadio Anoeta one last time. It proved to be quite the send-off for Prieto – with Real Sociedad winning 3-2 in a dramatic match.
Real Sociedad have garnered attention in the past for noteworthy kit changes. In 2012, they thrilled supporters by putting their names on shirts in place of a sponsor.
